The 2015 general elections in Nigeria is fast approaching, and according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), you need to have a Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) to exercise your franchise. Many Nigerians are yet to collect their cards due to one reason or the other. The essence of this article is to inform you of simple steps to take before heading over to a collection centre. Do you know you can check if your PVC is ready? Carefully read the steps to take below:
METHOD 1:
You can check your voter’s card status by sending an SMS with your:
State(Space)Last Name(Space)Last 5 digits of your Voter Identification Number (VIN) to 08171646879
Format: State Last name VIN
Example: Adamawa Ibrahim 30750
You should receive a response within 15 minutes.
Note: Text messages are charged at the local network rates.
METHOD 2:
INEC has incorporated a Voter Status Verification System on her Official website, where you can know the status of your PVC in 4 simple steps.
- Select your State of registration (where you originally registered in 2011).
- Enter your Last Name (Surname).
- Enter the last 5 digits of your VIN as depicted in the picture below.
- Click the Check Status button as depicted in the image below:
Viola! Your voter status will be displayed on the right-hand side of the screen. Here is the screenshot of my Voter’s Card status.
This online Voter Status Verification System categorically states your registration ward and the polling unit to collect your Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC). It saves you the stress, time and energy of going from one wrong polling unit to another.
If you have any concerns or issues bothering your mind on the PVC or any other election-related matter, you can reach the INEC Citizens Contact Centre (ICCC) on 07098115257, 07098117563 and 07098110916

How can I get a new pvc?
INEC is no longer giving out the PVCs at the moment, if you lost it, you’ll have to wait till INEC announces continuous Voters registration for the 2019 general elections.
You can as well call any of the phone numbers in the post or visit INEC website.
I hope this helps.
