One Night Stand With Dell Venue 8 Pro (Review)

I recently got a chance to play with a Dell Venue 8 Pro (32GB version) I got for a client and I must confess, I really like the tab. I think Microsoft’s vision about a tablet replacing a laptop is gradually coming to pass. With the rise in the use of Smartphones and tablets mostly powered by android and iOS, a Windows powered tablet cannot be ignored. Before I continue with the review, let’s go through the specification of this device. Please note, this is only a 12 hour relationship.

Design

The design is not spectacular but it is okay compared to my nicely-built HP Slate 7 Extreme. It has a little weight to it (maybe because of my not too big hands); holding it in one hand for a long period of time might not be pleasing.

Although, Dell Venue 8 Pro is only 9 mm thin, it’s easy to hold and fits perfectly into the Fintie Blade X1 Bluetooth Keyboard Case. This case is sold separately, it is an Ultra Slim Shell Stand Cover, and the Keyboard is magnetically detachable.

Operating System

This tab has the full Windows 8.1 on it which means it’s just like using your PC on a smaller screen. Dell Venue 8 Pro comes with the latest Windows 8.1 operating system and a 1-year license for Office 365 Personal. Not only that, you’ll also get direct access to Xbox Music, videos, games and Skype to help you stay connected.

Some of the features are too tiny to use with your fingers, in order words, you will need a Stylus. In my opinion, you might want to buy a Windows tablet that has stylus included out-of-the-box; that’s where the new Microsoft Surface 3, ASUS VivoTab and a few others come in.

Battery Life & Performance:

The tab has an impressive battery, within the first 30 minutes of setup over Wi-Fi, the battery remained on 100% without charger connect. I was able to juice out about 9hours out of the Dell Venue 8 Pro. You can lower the screen brightness just like your PC to save power consumption.

Dell Venue 8 Pro tab is powered by the latest Quad-Core Intel Atom processors, including Intel Inside so you can listen, watch, work or play.

Storage:

The version I used for this review has 32GB of on-board storage but some of the space have been taken by system files. About 16GB was left but here is the plus, there is a microSD card slot for up to 128GB of additional storage, you’ll have plenty of room to store photos, presentations, spreadsheets, movies and more.

Pros:

Great screen.

Battery lasts a long time.

Works well with Microsoft products.

Boots very fast.

Cons:

Touch Sensitivity, System Memory

Connectivity issues

Conclusion

A windows tablet is a huge plus for professionals, bloggers, journalists and people who work on the go. A lot of people do not like carrying their laptops around because of space and weight, the Dell Venue 8 Pro and many other windows tablets are the right tablets for productivity. We all know the Windows 8 OS is boring on a Desktop or Laptop Computer, it serves you right on the Dell Venue 8 Pro. My advice, go get one; it is a worthy investment.
