Acquiring relevant new skills and certifications is advantageous in the competitive labour market, improves your CV, defines your career path, and goes a long way to boost self-confidence.
We must continue developing and growing whether we like to or not, and the easiest way for busy people is to learn such skills online. Below are some free online courses with certificates and platforms to get you started on your skill acquisition journey.
1. Side Hustle
Side hustle is an annual digital skill internship programme that trains thousands of African youths in various fields across Engineering, computer programming, Marketing, Product and Design.
It’s a free internship that runs for up to six weeks, and the studies are paced with assessment tests given at the end of each week. Capstone projects are also assigned, adding to the final grade at the end of the internship. Certificates are awarded but for a small fee.
The programme has various business partners and sponsors, and as an intern, you will be prompted to download a bank application and open an online bank account. This account will be for receiving stipends during the course. The next batch of cohorts will begin by 11th April 2022.

2. Jobberman soft skill training
Soft skills are non-technical skills that indicate your ability to work and grow within a company. Soft skills demonstrate that you understand the different characteristics that will help you succeed within an organization and your specific position.
More than a course. It’s a unique road path to success. Jobberman created this short course to be completed in 2 hours or less, and it is for people between 18 and 35 years. The course also comes with a free certificate and can be completed through Telegram, Thinkfic, Coursera or Zoom.

3. Fundamentals of digital marketing
There’s no better way to learn digital marketing than through the company that started it all. Google offers free training to anyone who is interested and at any time. The courses are there for you to take advantage of for free.
There are many short courses that you can complete in an hour or a day, but they only offer a recognized certificate to one of those courses. This course is the basics of digital marketing, an Interactive Advertising Bureau-accredited course.
There are 26 modules to explore, all created by Google trainers, packed full of practical exercises and real-world examples to help you turn knowledge into action. Learning is done with our bite-sized video tutorials, then test your knowledge with a quick quiz. You’ll take a 40-final question exam to get a certificate at the end of the course.
